This well flying species prefers the salt marsh sites, adjacent pastures and wetland habitats such as bogs and flood meadows, but also ruderal vegetation and unmanaged areas are occupied. It is breeding in lowlands up to 250 m asl, but because good flyer, it was found occasionally also in high mountain grasslands along ridges (< 2000 m asl).

Late species with fragmented distribution, but sometimes with relatively high abundance in suitable breeding sites, mainly along Danube and Latorica River.
